Question

Why shouldn’t I just take my life. I mean is it really worth it to go through this for almost my whole life. I just cant take it anymore. I do not want to go back to my old ways and I am thinking of doing it either way. I get called names by my parents. I get bullied on the bus and at school. I am thinking of self harming and considering suicide. I don’t know what to do. I’m lost and I isolate myself a lot. I just want someone to care. I have someone but they are not there everyday. I have talked to the vice principal and teachers about bullying and they didn’t care. I told my parents but they didn’t care they told me i deserved it. I just want to go away. Why shouldn’t I its hard i mean it would be easier to take me life instead of handling this. I just cant I want to end it. Please give me some tips because as much as I want to self harm or commit suicide there is something inside of me telling me not to. Please just help me. I need more coping skills.

Answer

I am so proud of you for reaching out. I can hear how difficult things are for you right now. I see that you have tried to get help in the past but you felt no one cared. I can’t imagine how frustrated that made you feel after you had the courage to finally reach out. It sounds like you feel your parents and the school has let you down. As bad as you might feel right now I just want you to know suicide or self harming is not the answer. I know you may feel there is no other way to make the pain stop but trust me there is. There are other ways to change and improve your situation and you deserve the support you are missing right now. Even though you feel so alone right now it doesn’t mean you have to cope with this by yourself. Just talking can help you see there are other options in your life even though you may not see that right now. Please don’t stop reaching out until you find someone who is helping you. If you tried the vice principal and felt that didn’t help. Then maybe talking with the principal instead might help. You can also try talking to the other teachers at school until you find one that listens and helps you. If there are counsellors at your school, please reach out to them. You can even reach out to your parents again. If that doesn’t work have you thought about talking to an aunt, uncle or grandparent? If you have a supportive friend at the school or on the bus try to stay close to them. Alway let the bus driver or adults that are in the area know what is going on. Bullying has a way of killing your self confidence because after a while you start to believe what they are saying. I have a sense you feel like there is no were to turn. So if you still have thoughts of suicide please reach out again to the people I have mentioned and tell them. It is okay to go to a hospital or call 911 if you are struggling to keep yourself safe. I also invite you to call Kids Help Phone if you feel you cannot keep yourself safe. If you just want to talk, we are here for you also. Our Kids Help Phone friendly and helpful counselors are here to support you and keep yourself safe, so please call 1-800-668-6868 anytime. I will be thinking of you. So please keep in touch. Bye for now. Take care.
