Sometimes, it can really help to know you’re not alone by hearing from other people who are going through something similar.

To help show young people they’re never alone — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic — Kids Help Phone asked kids from coast to coast to coast to share their words of encouragement with each other. We hope they remind you you’re never alone and that help is always available!

You can also chat 24/7 with a trained, volunteer Crisis Responder for support on anything you’re going through. Text CONNECT to 686868.

Here are some of the inspiring letters we’ve received from young people just like you!

Check back from time to time to read new letters from kids across Canada!

Dear River letter

Letter #1 reads:

Dear River,

I know it’s tough and that everyday is filled with uncertainty. One thing is for sure, however, and that is the fact that you are not alone. I share in your feelings of anxiety. I miss being able to see people without fear. Many people are experiencing all of these strong emotions and I know how overwhelming it can become. In the face of hardship, we have to stay strong.

Strength can mean many things. It doesn’t mean you can’t be sad. It doesn’t mean you can’t cry. Being strong can be something as little as acknowledging your feelings, or pushing through a hard day but still getting up the next morning. Just know that you have made it this far. You are strong and there are always people who will listen to you.

If you ever do need to talk, know that you can always text “TALK” to Kids Help Line at 686868.

There's always a reason to smile letter

Dear online friend letter

Letter #3 reads:

Dear online friend,

I think it’s fair to assume something is bothering you right now. I have no idea what that may be but I need you to know everything is going to be okay. Today, everything may seem scary, from the world, to your school, to your home. I need you to know however, that things are going to start looking up. You will find what you love, you will be loved and you can find happiness because you are a good person. No matter what a voice in or out of your head can say, you are good enough and you can find happiness no matter how long that may take, you just need to hold on until the storm passes. No matter what though, you will always have a friend at Kids Help Phone.

You can let other young people know they’re never alone, too! Here’s how:

  1. Write a letter sharing how you’re feeling and/or encouraging thoughts. The letter can be as short or as long as you want — it can even be a drawing!
  2. Let young people know they can always contact Kids Help Phone by including “Text 686868 or call 1-800-668-6868 to reach Kids Help Phone.”
  3. Sign your first name (but no last names please!).
  4. Take a photo and post your letter on social media, tagging @KidsHelpPhone if you’d like us to see it.

Kids Help Phone would like to thank all of the courageous young people who submitted their letters of support for kids across Canada to read during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you for reminding your peers they’re never alone!
